SQL in InfoNet

This 1-day course is the starting point for anyone interested in getting familiar with the SQL functionality within InfoNet. In this course participants will learn to use the basic SQL functionality and will cover the fundamental concepts underlying it’s use within InfoNet, such as Object Schema and Hierarchy, Object Selection and Deselecting, SQL with GIS and an introduction to some of the many inbuilt functions in SQL.


This is a 1-day computer hands-on training course.

Teaching Method

Participants are guided through a series of practicals by computer hands-on training.


A basic understanding of computers is required. Some familiarity with GIS or MicroSoft Office programs would be advantageous although not essential. Understanding of sewer and water networks would also be helpful although not a requirement.

  • Selection in Multiple Clauses and Overriding the Table Name
  • Creating a ‘Mini’ Table using SQL
  • Apply Filter to Current Selection
  • Deselecting Objects
  • Flag Fields

Session C: GIS Layers and Objects

  • Interrogating GIS Layers with SQL
  • Deletion
  • Insertion
  • Assignment

Session D: Functions

  • Working With functions
  • Aggregate Functions
  • Date Functions
  • String Functions
  • The MATCHES Function
  • Other Functions
